Water Temple

Zora's Domain will be completely frozen over when you arrive. The King Zora will be encased in red ice - pass behind him to the shrine where Jabu Jabu was, and you will find iceburgs floating on the waters. Jump across the ice burgs to get the piece of heart, and enter the Ice Cavern at the far end. This is the first of the sidequest that you will have to make in order to obtain an item. The Ice Cavern is a mini dungeon in itself, after you've beaten the white wolfo, you will get the Iron boots. Sheik will appear and explain that he managed to save the Zora Princess from under the ice, but the curse will only be broken when the monster in the Water Temple is destroyed, and he will teach you the melody that leads there: the Serenade of Water. Don't forget one extra bottle of blue fire to thaw out the Zora King, who will give you a blue tunic that enables you to breathe underwater.
Armed with the iron boots and the blue tunic, you can enter the Water Temple. Use the boots to sink to the bottom of Lake Hylia, and hookshot the blue crystal above the gate. ( the hookshot is the only weapon that you can use under water, besides your sheild; and the water temple requires fighting both underwater and on land). This is my least favorite temple of all, mostly because it is very confusing. Also, because you get the longshot here, you will find that the hookshot is too short to reach anything most of the time. My strategy is to go in a circle: start on the first floor at the room with the torches outside. Inside, you will meet Ruto again. After reminding you of your promise to marry her ( Link's reaction here is quite amusing), she demands that you help her to save Zora's Domain. She explains that there are three places in the Temple where you can change the water level in the temple, and tells you to follow her. She floats up and dissapears, how convenient. Take off your boots and float up to the third floor, stand in front of the plaque on the wall and play Zeldas lullaby. The water will drain down, giving you access to the first floor. Work you way on in a circle around the outside, then once you have the key, you can go through the locked door. Some useful tips for the water temple:

1. pay attention to cracks, wholes, and discolored walls, these are usually indications of places where a bomb can be used
2. when fighting Dark Link, don't use z targeting, this gives you more mobility to move around and get under his guard. since he mirrors your actions, targeting him directly is ineffective
3. don't forget the room underneath the block when you raise the water to the second level ( the locked door that you enter from the first floor; the block will rise with the water, leaving an opening for you to drop into)
4. in the room with the whirl pools - when you get towards the end at the corner with two whirlpools, don't try to cross them, stand at the edge of the rightmost one, and use the hookshot target on the ceiling to pull yourself to dry land.( look for the ledge on the wall next to the whirlpools, not the one with the pots).

The boss of the water temple is Morpha. Easiest thing to do, stand in a corner between the spikes and wait for him to lay across the ledge, then hookshot his nucleus, pull it in close and hack away. Eventually he will come to the corner where you stand, and it might make it a little harder to get the nucleus. Don't stand to near him or he will grab you, squeeze some life out and throw you out the room. Don't accidently step out and let him grab you when you see his nucleus bouncing along by itself. Once you defeat him, he sucks into a drop of water on the celing and drops. In the Chamber of Sages, Ruto, the Sage of Water will give you the Water Medallion. Outside, Sheik watches as the lake refills, when Link stands next to him, Sheik will leap into the tree and into the lake. ( hint: if you haven;t already, now is a great time to get the fire arrows. shoot the rising sun as it comes up from the plaque and you will recieve the fire arrows, which you will need for Ganon's Castle.
